#144 : Flattering Pants for every Figure Type
Saturday, September 4, 2010 @ 9:08 PM
Ever brought a hopeful pair of pants into the fitting room, only to find out it makes your booty look twice as large or your tummy to spill over the top? Cut your search for the perfect pants by knowing what styles work best for your body type.
If you are curvy...
Go for a stretchy pair with a midrise that conforms to your sexy curves. Flare-leg pants or boot-cut jeans in a dark wash slenderizes the thighs while creating a longer and slimmer silhouette. Back pockets should be large, to balance the size of your booty. Team with a tunic top -- like America Ferrera's -- to play down the hips.
If you have a short waist...
The "hipster" low-rise jeans or pants are extremely flattering because they help offset a short waist. Shift the attention to your lower half with cropped or ankle pants (to show a little skin) and gorgeous shoes. To create the appearance of a longer torso, follow Rachel Bilson's lead by topping off with a longer jacket or blouse.
If you have a long torso...
Opt for a pair of high-waisted pants -- like Lauren Conrad -- that balances your shape. A high waist visually shortens the torso and extends your lower half; while the long pant legs (with hems that cover most of your heels) lengthen the line of the leg.
If you have a boyish figure...
You can get away with almost any type of trousers and jeans. To add feminine curves, try low-rise pants with big back pockets to add a little booty. Team with a top that nips in at your natural waist -- or cinich on a belt a la Cameron Diaz -- to carve out a shaplier waistline and create instant curves.
If you have a thick middle...
Avoid the dreaded "muffin top" effect with a pair of medium-rise trousers. Boot-cut or slight bell-bottom legs will balance your thicker waistline. For the top, take a cue from Queen Latifah and layer a structured button-up blazer over a sexy cami that smartens up your look and helps cover up any tummy spillover.
